Downey Park – Sport at the Heart of Windsor
A short distance from The Windsor is Downey Park, one of Brisbane’s most important community sporting areas.
Downey Park has an especially interesting history. Brisbane City Council records that it was officially dedicated to women’s sport in 1959 and became strongly associated with the development of women’s sport in Brisbane. Natural & First Nations Heritage Walk
A particularly interesting feature of Northey Street City Farm is its Heritage Trail.
The trail was established to improve biodiversity and wildlife habitat along the creek.
Native vegetation was planted along the route, while boulders with interpretive plaques were installed to tell stories about the area’s natural environment, First Nations history and early local history.
This makes the walk more than simply exercise.
It provides an opportunity to slow down, explore the creek environment and learn a little about the much older cultural landscape beneath modern Brisbane.
Northey Street City Farm acknowledges the Yuggera and Turrbal peoples as Traditional Owners of the land on which the farm operates.
Walk, Run or Cycle Along Enoggera Creek
Windsor is connected to one of Brisbane’s pleasant inner-city walking and cycling routes — the Enoggera Creek Bikeway.
Despite its name, it isn’t only for cyclists.
It is a paved shared pathway used by walkers, runners, cyclists and families.
